Japanese culture & hobbies
Get curious about the traditions, creative interests and communities that make Japanese hobby culture so special.
Japanese-themed hobby convention · Penang
Free entry · Everyone welcome! 💖Welcome to Mahou-Meki, Hanabana Hobbies’ first Japanese-focused hobby convention in Penang. A weekend to explore Japanese culture and hobbies, meet fellow hobbyists, and fall in love with exploring, discovering and connecting.
✦ THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME ✦
Mahou (魔法) means “magic.” It represents that special feeling of discovering something new — the excitement of creating, learning and sharing something you love.
Meki is inspired by Kirameki (煌めき) — a sparkle, glimmer or shine. For us, it represents the little spark inside everyone: a curiosity, passion or hobby waiting to shine again.
Together, Mahou-Meki represents the magic of finding your spark. Whether you're discovering a hobby for the first time or returning to something you once loved, Mahou-Meki is a place to explore, create, connect and be inspired.
Curiosity is all you need
Mahou-Meki brings Japanese culture and hobbies together through learning, creativity and shared experiences. Whether you’re taking your first step or returning to an old favourite, there’s room for your spark here.
Get curious about the traditions, creative interests and communities that make Japanese hobby culture so special.
